Faculty/Staff Printing - Connect to a Network Printer on Taboo

Connecting to a network printer on Windows is mostly a matter of opening the correct list of printers and finding the specific printer’s name based on its location.

While using a computer on the Binghamton University domain (i.e. a computer where you log on using your BU username and password)... 

1. In the lower-left corner of your computer screen, click into the “Type here to search” box (which you may not see), or click the Windows icon
   
    
2. Type the following:
   
   \\taboo.bu.binghamton.edu
   
   
    
3. Press the ‘Enter’ key on your keyboard
   
   This should open a list of all the networked printers that ITS manages on the Taboo print server.
    
4. The list of printers is organized alphabetically by location, so find your printer and double-click it
   
   In this example, we’re adding a printer in the Technology Hub (TH) building at the Help Desk.
   
   
   
   After some processing, you should see your printer’s print queue automatically (which you can close) which confirms that your computer connected to the printer.
   
   
    
5. That's it! Your computer should be all set to print to the printer.

Connecting to a network printer on Mac can be difficult because you need to know the IP address of the printer, and that information is only available in very specific locations.

1. Retrieve the printer’s IP address from the ITS Help Desk
   The ITS Help Desk staff can provide IP addresses for printers managed on the ITS print server. When you contact the Help Desk, please provide your printer’s building and room number.

2. On your Mac, in the upper-left corner of the screen, click the Apple icon, and select the “System Preferences” option
