Overview
You have the option to disable smart feature settings In your own Binghamton University Google Workspace Gmail, Chat and Meet. You can also disable your smart feature settings in other Binghamton University Google Workspace products. The following instructions are for changing on a computer, but you can use Google’s instructions for more details or specific iOS or Android instructions. https://support.google.com/mail/answer/15604322
Change smart feature settings for Gmail, Chat & Meet
- On your computer, go to Gmail or Bmail
- At the top right, click "Settings" (gear icon) then select "See all settings".
- In the “General” tab, scroll to “Smart features.”
- Next to “Turn on smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet,” uncheck the box.
Important:
- Changes to smart feature settings apply across all devices and apps where you’re signed in.
- If you’re on the mobile Gmail app but don’t get a notification about the changes, update your app.
- Some changes made on your computer don’t reflect in the mobile app.
Change smart feature settings for Google Workspace & other Google products
- On your computer, go to Gmail or Bmail
- At the top right, click "Settings" (gear icon) then select "See all settings".
- Under the “General” tab, scroll to “Google Workspace smart features.”
- Click "Manage Workspace smart feature settings".
- Turn a smart feature off by sliding the toggle to the left

- At the bottom right, click Save

Access to Gemini and NotebookLM are provided for all Binghamton University students, staff and faculty. These are standalone applications and your chats are not used to train the model and are not reviewed by humans. The standalone Gemini app can be connected to other Google services such as Drive, Email, etc, but that interoperability can be turned off in the Gemini settings under Settings - Connected Apps.
