Overview
This article contains instructions for any Binghamton University faculty, staff, or students that would like to connect to the Binghamton University VPN using the Cisco Secure Client program on a Windows or Mac computer.
Establishing a VPN connection is the first step in connecting to the BingView service, or remotely connecting to office computer resources (i.e. a department's shared network drive, an H drive, a U drive, Banner, etc...) from anywhere outside of the Binghamton University campus. Connecting to the VPN, in essence, makes a computer act as though it's connected to the wired Binghamton University network for university-related websites and services.
***IMPORTANT***: If you haven’t yet set up your Binghamton University two-factor authentication (2FA) account yet, then please go through the instructions at the following link before anything:

Windows Instructions
Windows - Installation and First-Time Configuration
- Visit https://buvpn.binghamton.edu from a web browser
- Select/Enter the following for the provided fields:
- Group: BU-VPN
- Username: Your BU Username
- Password: Your BU Password
- Second Password: Your 2FA one-time password (This is the 6-digit code generated on the "token" you set up for 2FA)

- Select the Download for Windows button
- Open the downloaded file

- Follow the on-screen prompts to install Cisco Secure Client (Will require you accept the software license agreement and prompt you to allow changes to your device)

- Launch the Cisco Secure Client from the Start Menu

- In the empty field, enter buvpn.binghamton.edu
- In the subsequent window, select/enter the same information from step two

- You are now connected to the Binghamton VPN.
Mac Instructions
Mac - Installation and First-Time Configuration
- Visit https://buvpn.binghamton.edu from a web browser
- Select/Enter the following for the provided fields:
- Group: BU-VPN
- Username: Your BU Username
- Password: Your BU Password
- Second Password: Your 2FA one-time password (This is the 6-digit code generated on the "token" you set up for 2FA)

- Select the Download for macOS button
- Save the file to a location you can access. On Mac, it will default to Downloads

- Open the downloaded file

- Select the package icon in the next window

- Follow the on-screen instructions on the setup wizard. If prompted for a password, enter the password you use to sign into your mac.

- The application should open automatically. If it doesn't, open Finder > Applications > Cisco > Cisco Secure Client

- You'll be prompted to Open System Settings to enable the application service. After system settings opens, enable Cisco Secure Client to run in the background

- While on the same screen, scroll down and select the Network Extensions settings and toggle the Cisco Secure Client - Socket Filter

- In the empty field, enter buvpn.binghamton.edu
- In the subsequent window, select/enter the same information from step two
- You are now connected to the Binghamton VPN

Users accessing the Binghamton University data network via the SSL VPN must comply with the Binghamton University Computer and Network Acceptable Use Policy.
