Information for Binghamton University faculty and staff for purchasing a University computer. 
 

General Recommended Specs for Faculty/Staff Computers

Before ordering, departments interested in buying new equipment should submit a request for a New Computer Quote or contact the ITS Help Desk at 607-777-6420. ITS works with multiple vendors, including vendors on state contract, to find the best pricing for the University, and recommends following these procedures for purchasing new computers.

 

Minimum specifications for a staff/faculty computer are:

  Windows PC Mac
Operating System Windows 11 Pro MacOS 14 Sonoma (or Ventura and Monterey)
Processor Intel i5 or i7 Apple Silicon M2, M3 or Higher (Pro or Max for multiple monitors)
Memory 16GB+ 16GB
Hard Drive 512GB Solid State Drive (SSD) 512GB Solid State Drive (SSD)
Warranty 3 yrs. on-site warranty 3 yrs. AppleCare
