Service Description
Information Technology Services (ITS) offers comprehensive accessibility audits to ensure websites are usable and accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. Our goal is to help you identify and eliminate barriers that could prevent users from engaging with your digital content.
Our auditing process uses a hybrid approach, combining the broad reach of automated testing tools with the detailed nuance of manual evaluation. This ensures a thorough review that goes beyond simple compliance checklists. The manual testing is critical and includes:
-
Keyboard-Only Navigation: We conduct thorough tests to ensure all interactive elements, such as links, buttons, and forms, can be accessed and operated using only a keyboard. This is essential for users with motor disabilities who cannot use a mouse.
-
Screen Reader Testing: Our accessibility experts use screen reader software, the same technology used by individuals who are blind or have low vision, to navigate the website. This allows us to assess the logical structure of the content, the effectiveness of alternative text for images, and the overall user experience for those who rely on assistive technology.
Following the audit, we will provide you with a detailed report that outlines any accessibility issues we discovered. The report will provide clear, actionable recommendations for remediation based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
While this service is primarily for university-affiliated websites, we can also audit external, third-party sites. An audit of an external site may be necessary if, for example, students are required to use it to complete an assignment or it is an essential tool for university business. If you need an external site audited, please be prepared to provide a brief explanation of its use case when you submit your request.
