Service Description
ITS provides two dedicated storage options available to researchers: "BingBox" and "Research Storage Classic". Both storage options are encrypted at rest, are stored on campus, and are fully backed up. Both are available for free up to 10GB, and are subject to a chargeback rate of $52/TB/year* thereafter.
*Chargeback rate if internal funds are used. For external funding, the approved chargeback rate is $60/TB/year.
BingBox - Web Accessible Storage (bingbox.binghamton.edu)
"BingBox" is a research specific web accessible storage option similar to Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. It is accessible from anywhere in the world (on or off campus) via a standard web browser, and supports collaboration with individuals outside of Binghamton University. In addition to the browser-based interface, it also supports various dedicated "sync-based" clients for MacOS, Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS. If external collaboration or off-campus access to files is required, BingBox is the recommended option.
While anyone can log into BingBox (with or without a Binghamton University account), users must contact us to request a file storage "space".
For more information. visit the "BingBox" webpage.
Research Storage Classic - Network Drive (researchstorage.binghamton.edu)
"Research Storage Classic" is a traditional network drive which can be mounted to your computer similar to "H" drives or "U" drives. It requires a Binghamton University network connection, a Binghamton University account (username/password), and is only accessible off-campus via a VPN. If direct manipulation of very large files is required and limited or no external / off-campus access to files is necessary, "Research Storage Classic" may be preferred.
For more information, visit the "Research Storage Classic" webpage.
For details on both Bingbox and Classic Research Storage, you can check out the Research Data Storage Website
