Overview
Keeping your Apple devices updated protects your personal data from cyber threats, improves system performance, and ensures compatibility with new apps. Follow the instructions below on how you can check/run updates on your various Apple devices.
Always make sure to save any work BEFORE updating because your device(s) will restart during the process.
Instructions
Mac
- Open Settings
- Under General, click the Software Update option

- Select the Update Now option

- You will be prompted to enter your Mac password
- Your Mac will begin downloading the update.
- Once the update downloads to your Mac, it can take about 20 minutes to fully install. During this time, a few restarts will occur automatically.
- Once restarted, you should be all set!
iPhone/iPad
- Open Settings
- Under General, click the Software Update option

- Select the Update Now option

- You will be prompted to accept the terms & conditions.
- Your iPhone/iPad will begin downloading the update.
- Once the update downloads to your device, it can take about 20 minutes to fully install. During this time, a few restarts will occur automatically.
- Once restarted, you should be all set!
