Google Photos - Use Partner Sharing to Share then Save Google Photos to a Personal Gmail Account

Body

Overview

As an alternative to downloading Google Photos from your Binghamton University Google Workspace Account using Google Takeout (https://takeout.google.com), Google Photos can be shared and saved to your personal Gmail account using Partner Sharing. Some considerations will be verifying that you have enough storage in your personal Gmail account and making sure to delete the photos from your Binghamton University Google Workspace account after verifying that copies have been saved in the other account. If the Save step is not completed, you risk losing your photos permanently.

Google Photos Partner Sharing

Instructions from Google for Partner Sharing are available from Google:

When setting up Partner Sharing, the photos remain in your Binghamton University Google Workspace Account and will continue to use your available storage. To make sure that they have been saved in the personal Gmail account you are sharing with, you must take the additional step of saving the photos in the Partner Account before you delete the Photos from your Binghamton University Google Workspace account. Be sure to follow the steps under "Save your Partner's Photos" in Google's instructions (see below).

Save your photos to your personal Gmail account after sharing them

If you save your partner’s photos, they appear in your Google Photos account, photos view, search results, and Memories.

The photos and videos you save from partner sharing won’t count against your storage until you or Binghamton University deletes them from your Binghamton University Google Workspace Account.

  1. On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
  2. At the top, click Settings then click Partner sharing.
  3. Below "Partner sharing", click on Save to Account to see options.
  4. Click Save.
    • All photos: Any photo in the partner sharing will be saved.
  5. Click Done.

If your partner deletes a photo from their Photos account or if Binghamton University administrators delete them, the photos are removed from partner sharing. If you save the photo before it's deleted, you can still find it in your Photos library in your Personal Gmail Account.

Information about Partner Sharing for Google Photos is being provided for those with a limited amount of photos who are looking for an alternative to downloading photos from the Google Photos service. If the photos are only shared and not saved, there is a risk of losing photos if they are ever deleted from Binghamton University Google Workspace accounts.
